Lime

Outside
Is a thick layer of skin
A bit cool to the touch
But cushiony
With a promise
Of the fun
Contained within
The green outer shell
Is tart and yet
It tickles the nose
In a most pleasing manner

Inside
It is solid and yet wet
With hundreds
Upon hundreds
Of little green pods
Crammed together
As if in a crowded subway
Each one bursting
On the inside
With a most flavorful juice
Sour and yet sweet
Opening up the senses
To new paths of exploration
In the mind
Where little green dreams
Send you floating
Down little green streams
In your lime rind canoe
The water bubbling
With lemon lime carbonation
Making your head swirl
Amidst the mysticalness
And the magicalness of all the greenness
And you land
On a bright green sandy shore
And you plop yourself down
On the warm green ground
And you look up way up into the sky
And see the puffy green clouds
Bouncing back and forth
Across a bright green sun
And you sigh
A happy green sigh
As you drift off into the night

And you awake to find
Yet another shot of tequila
Before you on the bar
With more salt carefully
Placed around the glass
And yet another lime
And another chance
To dream green.
